We Need You, You Need Us - Tin Shed, Sydney

Posted on April 12, 2012

Curated by Georgie Meagher

Dara Gill
Agatha Gothe-Snape
Sebastian Moody
Lara Thoms

Opening night Friday 20 April 6-8pm

In ‘We need you, you need us’ five artists from across Australia respond to the idea of “The Experience Economy” – presenting sculptural, performative and interactive works which question the role of the artist in a capitalist economic framework and explore the precarities of artistic practice. An artist fee will be sealed inside the walls of the gallery, artworks will be freely distributed, and audiences can gamble for an insight into economic success, or a year-long relationship. Questioning the sensibility of the artist as intellectually or physically superior, both the role of the artist and artwork are deconstructed by processes of imitation and reproduction in five new works.

Exhibition continues until May 19

SMAC Awards

Posted on December 13, 2011

Somehow I got nominated for a SMAC Award, FBi Radio’s annual Awards.

From their website:

The SMACS are this city’s truly interesting annual awards, given to the artists, musos, venues, promoters, creators and culture makers who keep Sydney’s creative heart beating. The SMACS exist to award originality, creativity and innovation: to celebrate the leaders, thinkers and doers of our town.

As you can imagine this was quite the surprise, and looking at the list of artists, I’m the least deserving:
Bridie Connell, Dan Boyd, Daniel O’Toole (aka Ears), Justin Shoulder and Tim Moore.

Exhibition: ‘In Action, Inaction’ - MOP, Sydney

Posted on November 7, 2011

Well the year is almost finished, but just before it does I have my a solo show at MOP! This is the culmination of a years work, and my JUMP Mentorship with Glenn Barkley.

You should come see it!

From the press release:

In Action, Inaction continues Gill’s investigation into the topic of anxiety with a focus on the gap between intention and action. In this new body of work Gill examines what effect anxiety has on action and explores its paralysing effect. He asks, what forces us to put off tasks that seem important? What role does logic play in spurring action? And can inaction be attributed to the mundane, the repetitive or the impossible?
